Victims of flooding in flood prone areas of Rivers State do not need to wait too long for assistance to come.
The Rivers State Government which set up a body to interface with victims who reside in flood plains will Tuesday, that is today, kick-start a bold intervention scheme that will mitigate the effect of flooding in the State.
The scheme is expected to bring succour to people in the communities affected by this year’s flooding.
According to government sources, Governor Siminalayi Fubara would any moment from now leave Government House for Ahoada to launch the scheme.
Telegraph checks indicate that the Governor will be arriving at Ahoada by noon to flag off what will translate into a massive effort by his administration to provide emergency relief to families that require help.
The Telegraph has also learnt that crowds of anxious villagers are already gathering at the venue of the event in Ahoada.
Among them are leaders of the State and chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
As at the time of writing this report, the official convoy of the state governor was getting set to roll out in the direction of the Orashi Region.
NIMET, the metrological agency which monitors weather conditions in Nigeria has predicted long before the rains launched out this year that several states, including Rivers State, would be affected by flooding.
The Telegraph which is keeping a keen eye on developments would provide updates for the benefit of its numerous readers.
