Breaking: Wike storms NASS Tuesday

National Assembly … Ready to receive Wike.

Presidential aspirant of the PDP, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State is expected, all things being equal, to visit the National Assembly Tuesday.

Insiders at the National Assembly reached by this publication revealed that a warm reception for the one who is increasingly referred to as ‘the new face of democracy’ is being planned by members of the PDP Caucus.

“Wike is coming”, a lawmaker and member of the PDP Caucus in the House told the Port Harcourt Telegraph, “We are honestly looking forward to his coming.”

Friends of Governor Nyesom Wike flew into Abuja on Monday to obtain a form from the PDP and accompany the governor to NASS.

The planned visit of the Governor to NASS  is coming on the heels of the support that his bid for the presidency is receiving from Benue State.

Wike had chosen to answer calls by Nigerians for him to step into the ring in Markurdi, the Benue State capital, where he met with national delegates of the PDP.

“Mr. Projects” as he is popularly known in the country told delegates  that he is prepared to lead the PDP to victory against the APC and take Nigeria to newer heights.

“He has worked for us and the party”, a former member of the National Assembly said in Port Harcourt.

Chief Ogbonna Nwuke, former Spokesman of the APC remarked, “Wike has grown to be one of the pillars of the PDP in this country.

“He has fought major battles in the name of the party, become the voice of the voiceless, gone round the country fixing things and motivating followers of the PDP.”

There is growing excitement within and outside the PDP as a young, vibrant and focused Nigerian Governor described as the country’s new face of democracy becomes the newest entrant.

Nigerians want to enter a new era of great progress and development. Will they witness vigorous transformation under a Wike presidency?

Many who blame Nigeria’s worsening poverty level and the pace of growing unemployment on poor leadership posit that the Rivers development model, if replicated at the national level, could change the picture and launch the country on the path of growth.

Bala Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State had earlier expressed optimism that his Rivers State counterpart would be required to serve Nigeria at higher level. That moment appears to have arrived.

Wike joins former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Senator Bukola Saraki, Governor Bala Mohammed, Governor Aminu Tambuwal, Dr Peter Obi and Ovation Magazine Publisher, Dele Mumodu in the presidential race.

While at the National Assembly, the outgoing Rivers Governor is expected to intimate senators and federal lawmakers who are ready to roll out the red carpet of his plan to emerge as the country’s next servant leader.

Last week, the Port Harcourt Telegraph dropped the hint that a governor from one of the South South states was gearing up to visit NASS.

Although the report did not name Wike directly, what is to happen Tuesday has confirmed its authenticity.

Across the country, there have been strong speculations that Wike, given what many saw months ago, as his body language at the time, would join the race.

Wike’s declaration on Sunday in the Middle Belt has put paid to widespread speculations about his political future and opened a new vista of hope among his supporters and admirers across Nigeria.

A close associate of Governor Wike told this publication, “We are ready to move; ready to take the vision of a better Nigeria to the Nigerian people.

“No one has spoken truth to power in this country like Wike has. The time has come to speak directly to the Nigerian people.”
