Nigeria’s Labour Leaders Jettison Planned National  Strike

● Settle for a deal with the Bola Tinubu Government

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu averts a national strike, enters into a new deal with representatives of Nigerian workers.

Thousands of angry Nigerian workers affiliated to the Nigeria Labour Congress or the Trade Union Congress do not have to hit the streets in protest.

This is because negotiators on the part of the Labour movement and the government have agreed to a deal.

According to information reaching our news desk, leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have eventually agreed to halt the indefinite nationwide strike which was planned to commence Tuesday.

The decision to call off the protest followed the outcome of the meeting held between labour leaders and representatives of the Federal Government.

The meeting which took place at the State House, Abuja, on Monday, October 2, 2023  agreed on a number of issues pertinent to the welfare of the working class.

Among other things, workers at the national level are to receive a N35,000 pay rise across board while State Governments will sit with Labour leaders within their jurisdiction to negotiate increase in wages.

The Federal Government is equally promising the provision of SNG buses that are expected to cut down transport fares.

We have however heard that Labour reserves the right to call out their members if after 30 days the expectations of workers are not met.
